Something to Bark About
Beginning Monday, March 10, 2025, the Alex and Elisabeth Lewyt Canine Adoption Center and Bianca’s Furry Friends Feline Adoption Center will be closed Monday and Tuesday, and open from 10:00am to 6:00pm Wednesday through Sunday.
Dexter’s journey began nearly a decade ago when he was just a playful puppy, adopted from North Shore Animal League America into what was supposed to be his forever home. But when his family went through a divorce, Dexter was cast aside — left at a shelter in New Jersey, alone and confused. Now safe at our Port Washington, NY Adoption Center, the transition has not been easy as Dexter longs to be in a home again.
The devastation left behind by the recent wildfires in Los Angeles County and beyond has uprooted countless lives — both human and animal. As communities work to rebuild, shelters in California are facing an overwhelming challenge: finding space for the rising number of animals in need. While some shelters had emergency plans in place, others, like Western Riverside County Animal Services and its three affiliated shelters, were already over capacity when the fires began.

Tour For Life is celebrating 25 years on the road as the world’s largest mobile cooperative lifesaving pet adoption event! Our Mobile Adoption Units will be rockin’ and rollin’ into 67 cities and towns in 39 states to help our shelter partners across the country host adoption events that bring their animals center stage in their communities and find them loving, responsible homes.
