Most emergency shelters are not pet-friendly…

But the Providing for Unhoused People with Pets (PUPP) Act wants to fix that.

Natural disasters… House fires… Financial hardship… No matter the circumstances, access to emergency housing is a lifeline. But if shelters don’t allow pets, unhoused people must make the impossible decision between having a roof over their heads or staying with their beloved companion animal.

The PUPP Act is a bipartisan Congressional bill that would create a grant program to provide emergency shelters with funds to support clients with pets. Funds can be used to retrofit facilities to better accommodate pets, provide basic veterinary services and more – all with the aim of removing unnecessary barriers to emergency housing.
