The mission of our North Country Initiative to RESCUE NURTURE ADOPT EDUCATE is being accomplished through the operation of a no-kill rescue and adoption center and the implementation of a series of programs to assist with the needs of homeless felines and feral cat colonies in the region.  These programs include a focus on spay and neuter to reduce cat overpopulation and the suffering that coincides

We are seeking an Adoption Center Manager at our Adirondack Region Cat Adoption Center in Glen Falls, NY, who will work with the Director to oversee day-to-day operations of the rescue and adoption center. The Manager is responsible for recruitment and training of staff and promoting a positive and productive workplace as well as to ensure the health and well-being of felines in our care and post adoption.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain knowledge of all rescue and adoption center operations. Conduct daily rounds and be familiar with all felines in our care.
  • Review weekly feline population sheet. Work with the Director and staff to ensure the population is kept within our maximum capacity for care. Keep current on intakes from rescue and surrender.
  • Monitor the neatness and cleanliness of the facility.  Work with the Director to take steps to correct any issues.
  • Research & analyze structure and staffing needs with Director regularly.
  • Manage all stages of the hiring process – revise job descriptions, market & promote position through HR, review applications, screen candidates, conduct interviews.
  • Serve as HR representative during all phases of the onboarding of new hires – New Hire Paperwork, Orientation, Staff Introduction, Policies & Procedures, Coordinate Training, Request device, equipment, and network access.
  • Staff Performance Management and moral building:
    • Continuously Train & develop staff.
    • Make efforts to build and maintain a positive morale.
    • Coach, monitor, give feedback, appraise, document, plan, set expectations.
    • Prepare & Present – 45-day progress reports, 90-day Orientation appraisals, Yearly Staff Performance Evals, 6-month Follow-Ups, Corrective Action Forms
    • Recognition efforts (birthdays, work anniversaries, commendations)
  • Staff Scheduling – Create & Maintain weekly staff schedule.  Manage time off requests, coordinate coverage. Work closely with volunteer coordinator for revisions to volunteers on this schedule.
  • Timesheet Review & Approval – Track and input use of time off, missed punches, communicate issues with payroll.  Complete & submit per diem staff time sheets.
  • Staff meetings – Facilitate Team, Staff and Human Resources meetings. Work with the Director to create agendas. Record meeting minutes, ensure follow-through of staff assignments and responsibilities.
  • Communicate any new and/or revised policies. Ensure all employees have a clear understanding.
  • Coordinate monthly transport to PW.
  • Assist director with Impromed upkeep:  Add/remove products, new employee set up, correct invoicing errors, create THM templates.
  • Various other duties, as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Must have minimum of 5 years management experience including coaching, mentoring, supervising daily team activities, performance management/evaluations, hiring, terminations, etc.
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field a plus.
  • Previous animal-related management experience a plus.
  • Must be able to organize, execute, and report on work activities without direct supervision; lead a team of employees.
  • Must be administratively detailed and proficient in MS Office.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of animal welfare: including feline care, handling, health, behavior and sheltering issues.
  • Strong leadership ability and motivational skills.
  • Maintain a culture of teamwork, superior customer service and commitment to the well-being of all animals in our care.
  • The ability to work at least one weekend day.
  • A valid NYS driver’s license.
  • Desire to make a positive difference in the lives of animals.
