On a crisp spring morning in April, North Shore Animal League America’s Mobile Rescue Unit arrived carrying 43 dogs and puppies saved from commercial breeding facilities throughout the Midwest. The canines, mostly seniors, were subjected to lives of neglect and hardship, but now have a second chance to experience love and kindness.

Being an optimist is hard work. But deep down, and despite the heartbreaking emails waiting in my inbox every morning, I believe that for every cruel person in this world, there are countless others who are kind, caring, and compassionate. This is especially true in animal welfare, where so many good people stand together to fight animal cruelty in all its ugly forms.
Kitten Season is the time of year when thousands of unwanted litters of kittens are born. Some will find their way to overcrowded shelters, while others wander the streets, hungry and alone, at risk for illness and injury. Our Nursery is filled with moms like Ryder and her babies — and more are coming in every day. When you sponsor our Nursery you are helping us to change their lives and giving them a chance for a brighter future.

Today this annual event has grown into Global Pet Adoptathon® and brings together over 2,000 shelter partners to find homes for tens of thousands of shelter and rescue pets around the world.
