Meet Nebel2025-05-14T12:13:47-04:00

On a rainy night in 2021, Nebel showed up at a Good Samaritan’s door. She cleaned the mud off his body, fed him and kept him warm. The next morning, she noticed that Nebel had an issue with his back legs, walking with great difficulty.

He was brought to North Shore Animal League America and admitted through our Community Outreach department. Nebel received a thorough veterinary exam at our Pet Health Centers and was diagnosed with spinal neuropathy and urinary incontinence. Unfortunately, within the next 6 months, Nebel’s hind legs were completely paralyzed. He requires three medications per day to alleviate the symptoms that arise from his condition; however, nothing stops Nebel from being a treat-obsessed, purring sweetheart. Thank you for sponsoring Nebel!

Nebel continues to charm everyone at the Pet Health Centers with his lovable personality. Though he lost the use of his back legs, this sweet boy remains spirited and enjoys being spoiled by his legion of fans. Nebel loves attention, and we’re still hopeful he’ll find a permanent or foster home to provide the love and care he so richly deserves. In the meantime, he’s adored by all who meet him.

WELCOME NEBEL! Nebel was found on a rainy night in 2021, struggling with his back legs. After being brought to Animal League America, he was diagnosed with spinal neuropathy and urinary incontinence. Within six months, his hind legs became paralyzed. Recently, Nebel was outfitted with a cart to help him get around and he’s learning to navigate this new world. Despite everything, he remains a treat-obsessed, purring sweetheart. We hope you’ll consider adding a sponsorship for Nebel.

Donnie was visited by an angel this year in the form of a dog named Leah. Donnie spent months in our Pet Health Centers, trying to manage his neurological challenges. During that time, he bonded with Leah, who was being treated for a mysterious medical condition. Their friendship blossomed as they sought each other out for solace. Leah initially responded to treatment and found a new home – except that meant leaving her best friend behind. But their story wasn’t over. Leah’s new family – who never had a cat before, let alone one with special needs – decided they should stay together! Sadly, Leah succumbed to pancreatitis, but passed away only after Donnie was settled in. We mourn the loss of Leah but rejoice in the new life she made possible for this wonderful Sponsor Pet.

Introducing Donnie! Late last summer a Good Samaritan found Donnie in a neighboring backyard – he was maggot-infested and his motor coordination was obviously impaired. He was immediately admitted to our Pet Health Centers where he was treated, examined and scheduled for an MRI. Donnie is diagnosed with multiple neurological issues stemming from excess water on the brain and underdeveloped gray matter which are causing Donnie’s abnormal balance and poor motor skills. An adorable and charming fellow, he’s been a favorite of our medical staff – even making friends and snuggling with a Pet Health Centers canine patient named Leah!
