A Wedding Celebration of Love and Rescue
Though Karrie Jerry has never set foot on the campus of North Shore Animal League America, the organization has a special place in her heart. A Howard Stern fan from her college days at Boston University, Karrie first heard about Beth Stern’s Instagram on his radio show and was immediately captivated. “I grew up around pets that we either inherited from friends or that we adopted,” Karrie said. “So, I’ve always been interested in rescue, but Beth inspired me to pay more attention to issues around homeless animals and fostering, and to be more mindful.”
As Karrie’s wedding day was approaching, she and her fiancé decided they wanted to do something meaningful support a cause important to them. “We didn’t need more clutter,” Karrie said. “The pictures of Bianca’s Furry Friends Adoption Center are just so impressive. I’ve been in a lot of humane societies and know how sad those animals look, and BFF is raising happier cats. I definitely wanted to support the work there.” She and her husband made the decision to ask for donations to Animal League America in lieu of wedding gifts.
“It’s a small thing but it feels really good to help.” While North Carolina – where Karrie and her husband live now – was too far away to be able to adopt one of Beth’s foster cats, they did recently find two special kittens from a local rescue in need of a home. Joey and Ja’Marr are certainly keeping their new parents busy and entertained! Karrie continues to be a strong supporter of Animal League America and a strong advocate for rescue. “I am always putting it out there to people and trying to educate them on homeless animals and adoption. I hope other people consider doing what we did.” We are so grateful for special supporters like Karrie, who know that there are many different ways you can make an impact on the dogs, cats, puppies and kittens in our care wherever you are.
