After Donna’s heart was shattered by the loss of two beloved furry companions, she wasn’t sure she could open herself up to another pet. Fate had a different plan, and a year later, Animal League America reached out about a terrier needing a home post-surgery. Donna’s empathy stirred. “I felt inspired to help her,” she said, “and hoped we would heal together.
“No doubt there’s more we’ll discover together and I’m here for it all! I love her unconditionally and I know she loves me too!”
Augie
Augie’s journey from frightened kitten to adored family member began with his rescue from under a New York City bus. Caitlin first learned about Augie (formerly Granola) after reading a social media post shared by Animal League America National Spokesperson, Board Member and Foster Parent Beth Stern. Caitlin had been experiencing heartache after losing her former feline companion and discovering Augie felt like fate. The connection was instant, and Augie’s health challenges just served to reinforce their bond. After being examined in our Pet Health Centers, Augie had been diagnosed with a significant liver condition, however it was one that mirrored Caitlin’s late-mother’s illness, and Caitlin felt like she was meant to be his caregiver. Though Augie has been through challenging surgeries and treatments, his spunky personality has shown through. He is now a spirited and affectionate companion to his adopter, two pittie siblings, and adopted kitten sister, Sally. “When they are through playing, they all love to cuddle up together,” said Caitlin. “Augie’s an independent explorer, but his favorite spot is always where he can keep an eye on all of us.” The resilience of this extraordinary kitten reminds us all of the transformative power of love and care
