Ownership.
My father recently passed away and someone gave him a dog. It's been 3 months since he moved in with me. After he died the old owner wants her back. Can I get in trouble if I refuse to give her back?

I bought the dog but he did give me some money towards her. We share expenses and both take care of her. I carry pet insurance, and I work from home and he doesn't. We will be living in same area so I would be willing to share custody but he may not be willing. Do I have to take him to court over her?
Can my roommate give my dogs away without my permission?
Was fostering a dog to own from a shelter and was going to get her spayed but then found out she was pregnant. Instead of returning her to get spayed and aborting the pups, we decided it was in her best health to let her birth the puppies in our home. We then got the mother spayed, yet the shelter is now claiming ownership of the pups born at our home...saying they are the Shelter's property because the mother was still their property. Do we have any claim to these pups?
My cat who is really like our child was stolen by our neighbor one night as I let her out for some fresh air when they grabbed her they told our security guard at our apt that it was cold and they would return her in the morning. It was caught on video when they grabbed her my wife called police who mistakenly told her a cat is not property in CA. What can we do? It has now been a few weeks and we are heartbroken . We can't get help from our landlord or anyone.
If I fostered a puppy through my job with no agreement signed between the foster and I then what rights do I have to the puppy? I also put in for an adoption of that puppy and the foster hasn’t contacted me for over two months. I have a text from the owner of my job stating I was approved and would be called with good news but never heard from the lady over the rescue/foster. I have not paid an adoption fee for him yet but also have been talking care of him for the past two months with no help. They had him neutered and most shots were tractor supply, I believe I am going to be leaving this job due to their poor ownership and was wondering if they could take him back from me even though they told me he was mine since I haven’t been able to pay for him because of no contact. I am worried about it.
Someone gave me a puppy to watch because she could not care for him. He was about 2 months old when I took him in. I have now had him for about 10 months, have paid for all his food and vet bills and care. That person now wants the dog back. He will not live a good life with her and he’s happy with me and my family. Do I have the power to keep him even if he is registered in her name?
The lady that was looking in on my pregnant dog took her to the vet and the vet give her two options, kill my dog or surrender her - which she couldn't do either option since own her. Now the vet refuses to give my dog back. Please help.
My husband and I adopted a dog back in September. This weekend we were served with papers. The previous owner is suing to reclaim the dog or collect money from us. She claims the rescue was only to hold the dogs temporarily while she had surgery. She wanted the dogs back after two weeks. The rescue had our dog for multiple months before we even adopted him. She is also trying to claim that her signature was a forgery. She had another small dog she surrendered at the same time as our dog, and she has filed the same lawsuit against the owner of that dog as well. I'm terrified we are going to lose our little guy.
My ex adopted a dog but when we broke up he told me to keep the dog this was in May of 2022 and he's been registered as my emotional support dog. He just sent a cop to take him back but I refused. Can he take my dog?
